The Goal of Facebook Marketing

Many marketers approach marketing on Facebook all wrong. They look at it as a place to spam links all over their wall and in groups. Unfortunately using these tactics achieves little to no success. People aren't on Facebook to buy things usually. They are there to make friends, chat, play games, and share experiences. Trying to market to them by just pitching links doesn't work.

The way to market on Facebook is to focus on building relationships. Treat each person you talk to as a new friend. Get to know her. Ask questions about their life, activities, and thoughts. Find out whatever you can about them. While you're doing this you are qualifying them to see if they would be a good fit for your business or if they would be interested in your product.

The way to do this is to find out about their likes and dislikes. Find out if they are happy in their current job. Find out what makes them unhappy. If you find they are truly unhappy, offer a solution that you can provide. For example if t hey say that there isn't enough training you might say, "My company has hours of training from 6 and 7 figure earners." One thing though, if they are truly happy, wish them well and leave it at that. Remember to check back in after a couple months to see how they are doing. You just might catch them when they are looking for a new opportunity.
